Fixing Dropbox changed path

On one computer, I have my Dropbox folder located in C:/Users/Mathijs/Dropbox/. On an older pc I have it located in C:/Users/Mathijs/My Dropbox/. Not that big a deal, but having Java projects in my Dropbox folder with classpaths pointing to libraries in the Dropbox folder (and without changing ‘em to relative paths, like I should), here’s an easy solution:

On the old pc, open a command prompt and cd to C:/Users/yourusername. Then type:

mklink /J Dropbox “My Dropbox”

This’ll create a directory junction named ‘Dropbox’ pointing to ‘My Dropbox’. Now you can always use the path to Dropbox/, on both computers.

I’m sure this’ll be useful for other projects than Java programming stuff too.

New website launched: Beep Boop Beep:

A short time ago two companions an I have launched a new company with the name of Beep Boop Beep. With a lot of personal experience in programming mobile Android™ apps and even more in high-quality Java programming we decided to go pro and focus on developing user-friendly, stable, first-class apps for Android phones.

Android is swiftly taking over the smart phone market: it’s the fastest growing smart phone OS in both overall share and sales of new devices and, since recently, for the first time people in the U.S. bought more Android phones than iPhones. Android has become an interesting platform for companies to fortify or create their mobile presence, and Beep Boop Beep is there to help companies interested in catching the Android wave to get what they want.

Although our first satisfied clients already have live apps in the Android Market with thousands of happy users, we didn’t get around to creating a website for our own company up until now. So here it is: http://beepboopbeep.com.

Electric AlleyCat’s new website, http://electricalleycat.com, is now online! Still in somewhat of a beta state, because there are things that will get added extra awesomeness, but live and definitely kicking it is. Based on a Wordpress install with a ton of changes and a newly designed template this rockband of the future has finally got a website to match their powerful noise. Library of the Utrecht University. Recently I was making pictures using a 12-shot B&W film I had laying around. After developing it turned out I had already used the film once; years ago when I took a analogue photography course. The original picture is most prominent, the most recent one (very faguely and upside down) shows a picture of little camping tents of the “Fata Morgana of Tranquility” arts project (more info: www.liesjeberk.nl/fmr.html).

A while ago I blogged about designing an album cover for the Dutch rockelectro band Electric AlleyCat. All I showed at that time was the logo I designed some time earlier. So, better late then never, here’s the final result of the album cover:

What’s next? Right now I’m working on the new EAC website, while the band is working on releasing the remix album soon.

Holland’s Next Top Electro Sound is coming (loudly) from the amplifiers of Electric AlleyCat. This four-man band, consisting of Jeditah van der Meulen, Joeri van Dongen, Erik van Woudenberg and a laptop, has recently recorded it’s debut album that sounds as if their lives depended on it. The ‘authorized noise’ of Electric AlleyCat is best described as, in their own words: “a bunch of guitars, 5 kilos of synthesizers, a wide range of techno beats and a voice that sounds like the child from Nina Hagen and Kate Bush”. Who wouldn’t want to play that on repeat for three weeks in a row?

After designing a frisky logo for the band a while ago, I had the honor of delivering the complete album cover, inlay and booklet for this new album titled ‘One Size Fits All‘. The result was an AlleyCat-pink, loudly screaming cover that matched not only the style of their soon-expected new website but also the appropriate ‘electro/underground’ mood that follows the image of the band. The inside of the booklet features the lyrics and some small doodles to go along with them. The album is being pressed at the time of writing, so even I am still waiting to see the final result.

A new blog, a fresh domain name, a tiny ripple in the big big blogosphere. My name is Mathijs Lagerberg; I’m a programmer, cartoonist and student and also, kinda, a designer. And this website is the shelf that I’ll be storing my designs on. As of the time of writing this page is empty and it will remain like this for a yet undetermined period of time since programming and studying-tasks are many, and awaiting, but time is short. But, when there is more time on my hands, this website will be featuring doodles, artworks, webdesigns, album covers and all other interestingness created by me. I hope to see you again.
