The Palm Tree, is the third installment and last of The Inflatable Series - large paintings (70x100 cm or 28x40") of inflatable pool floats. The first being The Flamingo, the second The Swan. The Palm Tree concludes the series that is meant to give a summery feel. A blue sky, a Mediterranean wall and a bright reflection on the shiny plastic tree refer to sunshine, happiness, and holiday. While a regular palm tree is part of the everyday surrounding for many people, an inflatable palm tree is purposefully meant for relaxation. Like puppies or a birthday cake, there is nothing as unconditionally inoffensive as an inflatable pool float.
I spent the following day roaming through the valley. I stood beside the sources of the Arveiron, which take their rise in a glacier, that with slow pace is advancing down from the summit of the hills to barricade the valley. The abrupt sides of vast mountains were before me; the icy wall of the glacier overhung me; a few shattered pines were scattered around; and the solemn silence of this glorious presence-chamber of imperial Nature was broken only by the brawling waves or the fall of some vast fragment, the thunder sound of the avalanche or the cracking, reverberated along the mountains, of the accumulated ice, which, through the silent working of immutable laws, was ever and anon rent and torn, as if it had been but a plaything in their hands.
“Yes, my youngest is not sixteen. Perhaps _she_ is full young to be much in company. But really, ma’am, I think it would be very hard upon younger sisters that they should not have their share of society and amusement, because the elder may not have the means or inclination to marry early. The last born has as good a right to the pleasures of youth as the first. And to be kept back on _such_ a motive! I think it would not be very likely to promote sisterly affection or delicacy of mind.
